Low-end que traduz: graves densos sem embolar a mixLow-end that translates: dense bass without a muddy mix

2. Sidechain sutil no baixo.

3. Decida quem fica em mono no sub. Abaixo de ~100 Hz, informação estéreo vira problema (some no mono, causa fase). Colapse o sub pra mono e deixe a largura estéreo pros médios e agudos.

Como saber se traduziu

O teste real não é o seu fone. É a variedade:

Low-end is where most mixes fall apart. On expensive headphones it sounds perfect; in the car it disappears; on a phone speaker it turns to mush. The problem is almost never "not enough bass" - it's two elements occupying the same band at the same time.

The classic conflict: kick vs bass

Kick and bass both live between 40 Hz and 120 Hz. If you just turn both up, they stack energy at the same frequency and you get that undefined "wall." The fix isn't volume - it's a division of labor.

A rule that works across most genres:

  • Kick owns the foundation (50-80 Hz), the "weight" you feel in your chest.
  • Bass owns the body and the note (80-250 Hz), the melody and groove.

Three moves that solve 80% of cases

1. High-pass everything that isn't bass. Cut below 100-150 Hz on vocals, guitars, synths and pads. Any track that doesn't need low-end but keeps it is stealing room from the kick and bass.

2. Subtle sidechain on the bass. A compressor on the bass, triggered by the kick, ducks the bass for a few milliseconds every time the kick hits. The ear doesn't hear "pumping" - it hears clarity. Start with 2-3 dB of reduction and a fast attack.

3. Decide who stays mono in the sub. Below ~100 Hz, stereo information becomes a problem (it vanishes in mono, causes phase issues). Collapse the sub to mono and save stereo width for mids and highs.

How to know it translated

The real test isn't your headphones. It's variety:

  • Listen on a phone (no bass at all): does the bassline still groove? Is the note clear?
  • Listen in the car (too much bass): does it become a wall or stay defined?
  • Use a phase correlation meter: if the sub pushes into the red, there's too much stereo info in the low-end.

Good bass isn't loud bass. It's bass you can understand on any system.

Wrapping up

Before you open another plugin, do the basics: cut what doesn't need low-end, give the kick and bass their own bands, and check on three systems. Nine out of ten "bass problems" disappear with just that - without buying anything.
